Mold Construction:

We make almost 100% of our tooling from 7075 Aircraft or forged aluminum plate. Wait; Please read on. We are currently running over 403 aluminum molds and some date back to the mid seventies and early eighties and have made hundreds of thousands of parts. Much of this is due to our policy of only making molds that we will run on our own machines, thus we have control as to how these molds are taken care of.  All of our tooling is made to be injected on parting line for quick change and more versatility.

We run many very abrasive resins including 30% glass filled, glass and clay filled, powdered iron filled, glass beads etc. In these cases we will sometimes insert hardened tool steel plates in the aluminum bases depending on the quantity of parts to be made.
Advantages : Aluminum is much easier and faster to cut, is not as hard on cutters, it dissipates heat much faster, is easier to polish and is not as heavy and hard to handle. In many cases product updates or changes can make a part outdated very quickly or companies tend to put off a needed update to stay competitive because the current tooling has not paid out yet. Our feeling is that if it is a new part going to market that if it does well, by the time the aluminum wears out it will have paid for itself and probably made enough to replace with a more permanent tool. Per part pricing depends on the type of material, number of cavities, cycle time, type of gates etc. and will be figured upon review of the part.
