Let us help you with your mold design if you just have an idea. We may have a few tricks that others don’t use to keep your cost down. If you have prints to work from we will convert them to CAD/CAM files. If you have a CAD/CAM system, we prefer to work from IGES wire frame with surfaces. If you can furnish part volume it helps in quoting part prices. We use Mastercam which will accept a number of files including PRO_E, CADL, DXF, Ascii, etc.
The least expensive mold to build is one that has all pockets, holes, slots, etc. in one plane or, in other words, if you were to cut a pocket the shape of the part and fill it with plaster could you get it out or do you have an undercut or a hole going 90 degrees to everything else. If the latter is the case then core pulls are required which will increase the cost. Sometimes an alternate design may be able to eliminate the use of core pulls. Let us look at it. All of our tooling is made to be injected on parting line. We will only design tooling to be used in our own machines. If we have to design a part from scratch there will be some other costs involved.
